Pregnancy is such a crazy time and whirlwind of emotions: it is an exciting time not only for you but also for your family. There is so much to do and to prep for the arrival of your little one - making sure you have clothing, nappies and a buggy or setting up and decorating a special room for your baby.  Booking your newborn photo shoot can be one of the tasks one overlooks during your pregnancy but it is an important part of planning for your baby’s arrival - creating memories that will endure. The photos are also a perfect way to introduce your baby to friends and family around the world. It is an experience for which you will always be grateful

I find that the main issue facing those who do not pre-book their newborn photography sessions is that, as new parents, they often only ‘come up for air’ after two to three weeks, which is past optimal time within which to have such a session and within which we usually have done a shoot with a pre-booked client.  My studio is so busy I can’t always accommodate these babies, either at all or within the ‘best window’ for the shoot, which I find heartbreaking for the parents. 

It is so hard to believe how fast children change: my son is in his mid-20’s and, believe me, it feels like yesterday when he was a newborn baby. The time has just flown by, as if it evapourated. 

You will see, during the first month, that baby goes from being really sleepy and pliable to being much more alert. In the first couple of weeks, your baby will be super flexible and malleable and will love being scrunched up as it was in the womb.  At around two weeks the pliable cartilage between the bones starts to fuse, the muscles start to strengthen and they become a lot less flexible and are generally more difficult to handle reducing the chances of getting those characteristic precious early newborn poses.  It is so important to try to capture these first couple of weeks with their windy smiles, yawns and other sweet expressions, those precious details that capture this really special stage. In these early weeks an experienced baby photographer safely works their magic and the results are so beautiful. It is a real honour to be able to watch parents experience this awesome shoot and it makes my occupation so enriching.

These days just about everybody has some form of camera readily to hand and we are constantly snapping away but to get great quality, well lit, well composed and professionally retouched images the services of a specialist professional photographer are irreplaceable. It requires great lighting, a good eye, patience and experience in handling babies to get these timeless shots.  As a specialist photographer of newborn babies, I am trained and, more importantly, well-experienced in handling and moving babies safely to get them into these amazing positions.  I still am fascinated by and in awe of what we can do with these little wonders.

I  studied photography formally for four years and have a higher diploma in photography which qualifies me to teach the subject. I have trained with some of the best newborn photographers in the world, been a photographing baby and children for over 20 years both for commercial clients as well as families and have had over 12 years experience of photographing newborns. I know my camera intimately; which is the best lighting to use; the best camera angles to choose to get a great variety of special portraits of your little baby. I have been in my current studio for over 10 years and have an extensive collection of props, blankets and textures to create gorgeous and enduring newborn photographs for you.  

My studio is serene, calm and warm so that baby is comfortable affording the best chance of getting exquisite pictures. I give you time so that our shoot is not hurried. Sessions are usually between two and four hours. I split sessions wherever possible where you have other children so that they do not have to hang around for the whole shoot.  I have access to professional retouchers to ensure that your images attain the highest possible standard.
